Dental Implants

When tooth loss has got you down, we at Reno-Tahoe Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center can get your mouth back on the road to complete health with the help of dental implants. Dental implants offer our patients a way to replace a single tooth, multiple missing consecutive teeth, and even full arches of teeth permanently. Dental implants represent the most impressive and influential milestone in modern dentistry, and here’s why.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are essentially permanent, prosthetic teeth. Where a denture must be taken out when you sleep or if you need to clean them, dental implants remain in your mouth and provide all of the benefits that a natural tooth would. Dental implants are surgically placed in your jaw and integrate into your jaw bone through a process known as osseointegration.

When you lose a tooth, there can be a significantly negative chain of effects caused that can easily lead to further tooth loss. It is important to replace teeth right away to mitigate these issues.

The Parts of a Dental Implant

Dental implants are made up of three distinct parts, the titanium implant post, the abutment, and the restoration.

The Titanium Post

The titanium post is the first part of the implant that we place in your mouth. This is the portion of the implant that is surgically placed into the bone in your jaw. The post is made of titanium because of it’s unique biocompatibility with the human biology. The bone in your jaw will accept the implant and be encouraged to grow around it, which will create a strong mechanical bond.

After placing the implant post, we will give it a few months to heal. Bone does not grow quickly, so it may take a couple of months to integrate to a point where it’s safe to place a restoration on top of the post.

The Implant Abutment

The implant abutment is the unsung hero of the dental implant. The abutment screws into the top of the implant post and is set in place permanently with a long lasting dental adhesive. The abutment provides surface area for the restoration to be attached to the implant.

The Implant Restoration

Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth with a dental crown, several missing teeth in a row with a dental bridge restoration, or a full arch of teeth. The larger the restoration, the more dental implants will be required to support it. We offer the All-On-4® Treatment Concept, which allows us to replace all of the teeth in your mouth and anchor them securely using only four dental implants per arch.

How Dental Implants Can Help You

Dental implants take the hassle out of tooth replacement by being a permanent tooth replacement option. You eat and speak with them the same way you would with real teeth, you brush them like real teeth, you even go to sleep with them like real teeth. They restore your ability to eat and even your confidence in your smile.
