Wisdom Teeth Extraction
What Are Wisdom Teeth
A great example of this is wisdom teeth. We are always on the lookout for the development of wisdom teeth in young teen’s mouths because we want to determine whether or not there is enough room for the wisdom teeth in their mouth.
Why do wisdom teeth often need to be removed?

Also, we guess that tooth loss at an early age was more common long ago, which lead to the need for additional molars in the late teen years of life.
When we say that a tooth is going to be impacted, what we mean is that as the tooth erupts from the jaw, it will come into contact with another tooth or dental structure that it should not contact. An impacted tooth is often the cause of significant discomfort and usually, leads to an infection.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction Procedure
The first step is to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure by giving you a local anesthetic to ensure that your mouth is numb. We have a few different sedation options available to our patients, just ask, and we will be happy to accommodate you. We will make an incision in the gums above the wisdom tooth and will grip the tooth with a tool called an elevator to remove it. Some wisdom teeth will need to be split to be removed.Once we have the tooth out, we will suture the site closed and place some gauze over it to aid in soaking up any excess bleeding that occurs. We will send you home with care instructions. It is important that you take it easy for a day or two following tooth extractions to ensure that the site heals properly.
