If you recently bit the inside of your mouth, having a rough patch where it’s healing is relatively common. However, if that hasn’t happened, then you need to keep an eye on this patch. If it is near the front of your mouth, look at it.

Are you seeing skin that looks different than the surrounding tissue? If so, then you need to make an appointment with your oral surgeon. They will want to take a look and make a diagnosis if it appears to be unhealthy tissue.

What A Rough Patch Inside Your Mouth May Mean

Sometimes, a rough patch in your mouth is the early stages of oral cancer. This is the concern when you notice a patch that doesn’t want to go away. Skin cells change when cancer takes over, and the tissues typically goes from being smooth to being lumpy and thick. If this is what your tissue feels like, it is important that you go in and get checked.

When oral cancer is caught early, it is often very easy to treat and move on from. Oral cancer becomes dangerous when it is ignored and not checked in its early stages. This allows it to spread and become a problem. Once the oral cancer spreads, it can become much more difficult to treat. The longer oral cancer goes on undiagnosed or untreated, the more difficult any type of treatment becomes.

If you want to make sure that you have the best chances of overcoming whatever ails your mouth currently, make sure you go in and get it checked as soon as you see a problem. The quicker you get in, the better your chances become of keeping your mouth happy and healthy. Talk to your oral surgeon to find out more today!
